Care Placment Guidance

When a parent needs more support, understanding the different care options can feel overwhelming. Terms like assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing are often used interchangeably — even though they serve very different needs.

My role is to help you understand these options clearly, talk through what’s happening with your parent, and support you as you decide what comes next.

You Don't Have to Figure This Out All at Once

Many families worry about making the “wrong” choice or moving too soon — or too late. The truth is, most decisions happen in stages. We focus on what’s needed now, while keeping future possibilities in mind.

You don’t need to have every answer today.

Not Sure Which Care Option is Right?

Understanding the Different Levels of Care

Senior care options range from more independent settings to higher levels of medical support. While there are many types of care available, my guidance focuses primarily on assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing, which are most often part of a care transition for families.

Other options, such as independent living, in-home care, adult day programs, and hospice or palliative care, may also play a role at different stages. The goal is always to match the right level of support to your parent’s daily needs, safety, and overall health.

Assisted Living

Designed for seniors who can no longer live safely alone but don’t require medical care around the clock. Assistance often includes meals, medication reminders, housekeeping, and help with daily activities.

Memory Care

A specialized environment for individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. These communities offer added structure, security, and staff trained in memory support.

Skilled Nursing/Rehab

Provides 24-hour medical care and rehabilitation services. This level of care is typically needed after hospitalization or when medical needs are ongoing.

How Families Know When It's Time

Signs families often notice:

  • Safety concerns (falls, wandering, medication issues)

  • Increased caregiver burnout

  • Changes in memory or behavior
